Tokyo and The Void Between Worlds, The Passon of the Satoshi, Part 3
STARBOY’s Log, Stardate Decembruary 131st and a half.
Andromeda is playing hard to get. But worry not, True Believers – that she wants STARBOY is as clear as the oceans of Shikayn.
Oh. Right. The oceans of Shikayn are famously clear, and they have many galactically esteemed vacation resorts because of it. There are places on Shikayn where, on a calm day, one might peer into the water and see straight down hundreds of meters before the light diffuses too much to see further. There you go, I spared you a wasted trip to Wikipedia. Sometimes Earth is so charmingly backward. But STARBOY loves it regardless.
Following their successful completion of a [[#4: The Evening Star | daring secret mission]] for our mutual employer, Izuko, Andromeda’s team headed to Shibuya for some well-earned rest and delicious okonomiyaki. They’d scarce had the time to garnish their fried deliciousness with benishoga when STARBOY found them. Being as clever and fashionable as I am, I was able to locate the missing Shikayn artifact we took a look for only a few days prior. But even STARBOY cannot handle every challenge without help – and there’s nobody STARBOY would rather work with than Andromeda and her squad.
Andromeda’s squad had grown since last I met them: STARBOY was quite pleased to meet Langley Alexander. After a cursory interrogation, it became clear that Langley was in favor of truth and justice, and therefor a worthy ally.
STARBOY brought them all back to the HQ, where we discussed the situation, and our strategy. After establishing that the missing device was protecting itself inside an extradimensional space, we decided the best way to approach it was to try to get in that dimension through the front door – the door of an apartment flat in Sennan. While normally STARBOY would not willingly spend so much time in Kansai, great challenges call for great sacrifices, and we made our way by train to the dark, moist depths of Osaka prefecture.
At ground zero, Alloy, Victoria, Langley, and Andromeda went in – and found themselves in another world entirely! STARBOY was reticent to leave Andromeda in danger, but realized it was best to stay outside with the criminal and ensure supplies were routinely sent through to the away team, and that no trouble came of their brave expedition. While outside, STARBOY valiantly gathered the necessary supplies for any life, and sent a steady stream of packages through to the other side. Meanwhile, the criminal experimented on the nature of the doorway, testing various means of sending through messages and possibilities. She also seemingly made substantial upgrades to Sennan’s municipal sewage and water treatment system. I should, perhaps, re-evaluate my opinion of her.
While STARBOY was not privy to the dealings on the other side of the doorway, The Eyes Above tell me that it was an alternatively chaotic and uneventful affair: the device was dialed to numerous different worlds, and cycled its connection between many of them. All worlds could connect TO the room, but the room could only connect to a single world at a time. It presented something of a conundrum for their eventual evacuation. However, through observation over the course of their four day stay, they noticed the cycle of worlds was regular – and hunkered down until they came about to Earth again, at which point they retrieved the device.
Victoria also took a sample from an unknown, and possibly extradimensional, alien garden world. I am keenly interested in further study in the specimen. Fortunately, the criminal was able to preserve its life! Izuko mentioned in passing that Andromeda spent much of her time on the other side of the door somewhere called the " River of Dreams ", but she wouldn’t tell me more when I asked. She keeps a lot of secrets from STARBOY, but I have to trust she has the best interests of all of Japan, STARBOY included, in her heart.
While it goes against protocol, Andromeda asked to keep custody of the device for a short while. STARBOY assented, but only on the condition that I be kept in the loop on anything they learn about it. It’s important to trust your team. STARBOY likes how that sounds – team.
Also, apparently Andromeda disappeared shortly after that, Izuko says it was something to do with this " Satoshi " the Eyes have been following. So many secrets.
STARBOY will peel back all the layers, someday.
